The death of a Korean baby was the fault of her own parents. They paid more attention to a virtual baby than their own child. The baby died from lack of food and care. What did the virtual baby have that their own flesh and blood didn’t have? Their irresponsible actions forced me to believe that they were not ready to be parents and that adults can have the mind of a child when it comes to the internet.
The reason why parents learn to use the internet is because they want to know what their children are doing and they want to be up to date with everything. Adults have become so fascinated with the internet because they are just learning the many things you can use the internet for. I personally know a mother who had her daughter teach her how to use the internet. She learned the ability of online shopping and she is now addicted. She spends all her free time shopping online and she pays less attention to her daughter. The sad result is that the child now has to sometimes fix herself something to eat.
Teens are viewed as the social group that is addicted to media. This incident with the Korean parents shows that adults can be addicted to media too, sometimes even worse than kids. Their addiction to media led them to take more care of a virtual child when they had the real thing right in front of them. Their addiction and immaturity as parents led to the death of their child.
